The Commisso Family

December 2007

Project Summary:

This was a 5 day project due to the scope of the project.

This special family had two people in wheelchairs and a son with learning disabilities and a seizure condition.  “Mom Commisso “was responsible for care of all. To add to her stress, she had already lost one child from the same disease that now affected her other daughter also has. Her loving husband was inflicted by MS.

Walls of Hope reconstructed doorways and living space to accommodate wheelchairs. We removed a large wall to allow the wheelchairs to be in the kitchen so they could eat together. We completed a wheel chair accessible washroom and installed a lift in the garage to help get her family in and out of the house without “Mom Commisso” having to carry her daughter and husband. We also created a barrier free basement where the family could function without restrictions.

“Mom Commisso” has not stopped thanking us. She and her extended family have continued to give back to Walls of Hope. She has always said that “angels came into her home”. The kindness of strangers is something she still has a hard time to express. To see the family having more independence and mom not so laboured lifting everyone everywhere was to good for words.

Testimonial

“To everyone at Walls of Hope,

It is with so much joy that I write thank you. But where do I begin. I thank you for transforming my home into an accessible house for my family. I thank you for the joy you brought to Alessia for turning her room into a princess room just perfect for my little princess. Thank you for Cosmo’s Maple Leaf room he absolutely loves it! Thank you for the wonderful nights out of laughs and dinner. I want to especially thank you for your LOVE. If it wasn’t for your loving hearts, none of this would be possible. You have truly touched our hearts in an unforgettable way. Thank you for your friendship, your time, your listening ear & your compassion.”
