The Bennett Family

Dec 2006 and April 2007

Project Summary

Single mom of 2 children, one with health challenegs. A teenage mom, who herself  had lived on the streets when younger, and  finally thought life was getting better when she married and purchased a house…..only  to find out it was all too good to be true.

With a newly purchased house, that was previously vacant for 2 years, not up to building codes and needed substantial work, was now faced with: no husband, a child with health challenges and another deserving of a “normal” life.

Walls of Hope provided a Xmas for her and her boys. We also did a few major repairs around the house that were truly needed.

We could not leave her with water dripping from upstairs to her kitchen to the point the ceiling was gone. We removed a supporting wall from the main floor and the upstairs that was in jeopardy of collapsing. We determined that there were many other safety issues, so much so, we went back in March to help with additional renovations.

The house was made structurally sound. The upstairs bathroom was gutted and completely replaced. The kitchen ceiling was replaced. The kitchen was given a facelift with cabinet doors and paint. We painted her family room and provided some new furniture. “Mom Bennett” was so emotional with the strangers that had provided so much kindness; something that she had ever experienced. She has volunteered at several future projects and has “paid it forward”.

Testimonial:

I want to thank you all very much for the work you did in my home this weekend. There were big smiles on our faces when we walked in on Sunday afternoon to an actual living room. My older son is especially thankful for the dishwasher as his chore is the dishes, he can’t wait to use it! Words will not ever really express our gratitude for your help. All I can really offer are my hands as I am more than willing to volunteer with any help you need on any upcoming project.
